So family member falls seriously ill.

player allegedly struggles to cope

player decides to enter transfer portal

player transfers even further away from where he grew up
(Granted I am assuming this family member lives close to where he grew up, if he is that devastated and close to the person)

seems legit

Colorado DL Antonio Alfano, former five-star Alabama prospect, no longer with Buffaloes program

The whirlwind offseason for Colorado defensive lineman Antonio Alfano has taken another turn, and this one has taken him out of Boulder. The school confirmed to the Boulder Daily Camera that the 6-foot-5, 280-pound defensive end is no longer enrolled at the school. Alfano was suspended indefinitely by coach Karl Dorrell in March for a violation of team rules.

Alfano transferred to the program in January when Mel Tucker was still serving as Buffaloes head coach after playing his first season at Alabama. He stopped going to class and practice at Alabama in early September, at which time coach Nick Saban revealed that Alfano was battling disciplinary issues and that he "kind of disappeared for a little bit."

"He quit going to class; he quit coming here. We tried to encourage him; we tried to help him," Saban said via 247Sports. "We had tried to set up counseling sessions with him to help him every way we could. And all those things are still available to him if he wants them, but he didn't respond to any of the things, so until he responds, you just have to assume the guy quit."

One final note: Alfano went to three different high schools in four years. Which means, in less than six years, he’s been part of five different football programs.

Just sayin': He sure is a "travelin' man"......

Alfano’s tenure at Colorado will be short-lived, however. He was recruited to Colorado by former coach Mel Tucker — who left for Michigan State this offseason, and new coach Karl Dorrell told Buffzone earlier this spring that Alfano had been suspended by the team.

247Sports’ BuffStampede, citing sources, reported in January that “Alfano missed countless workouts this winter and he was substantially late to his one-on-one meeting with Dorrell. It is unknown at this time what the path is for Alfano to potentially work his way back in the good graces of the program.”

Could Alfano follow Mel Tucker to Sparty?

Might as well, Tucker and MSU are desperate enough to take him

However, the Boulder Daily Camera is reporting that there is an opportunity for Alfano to return. From the report:

Head coach Karl Dorrell told BuffZone, however, that Alfano remains indefinitely suspended and there is a path for him to return to active status if he chooses to take it. Dorrell declined to specify the steps Alfano needs to take in order to return.

According to a source close to Alfano, he received a medical withdrawal from school for the spring semester.
