'22 MI C Shawn Phillips Jr. (NC State Verbal)

well, i guess the rumors (upthread) turned out to be right... albeit a while later than expected. can't say this is a positive development for osu.
well, some guys in the past couple days in some of the other threads have stated that Phillips is not all that he has been cranked up to be so if he ends up at MSU I guess those guys will not care because he had not that "good"

as with meechie looking good, it may be best to take these very recent "aau" games (glorified pick-up games, really) with a pinch of salt. i'm not saying meechie hasn't looked good. he has. but the teams he's played have been bad. all these kids haven't played an organized game in months and many probably haven't had (much) access to interior gyms. i don't know shawn phillips, but my guess is lots of high school players are looking pretty bad right now because they've lost structure.

in other words, i'm just going to trust ho1tmann's vetting process leading up to the march-and-beyond shenanigans.

edit: what's interesting is the "opportunity" that the current situation has provided coaches. want to find out which recruits have the most focus and greatest work ethic when not externally pushed? no better time than now. no surprise that meechie is shining. he's already been battling restrictions for a couple years.

  • On Wednesday, four-star center Shawn Phillips Jr. announced his top seven schools, and Ohio State was included on the list for the Ypsilanti, MI product. The nation’s No. 13 C and the No. 84 player overall in the 2022 class, the Buckeyes made the cut for Phillips alongside Cincinnati, Dayton, Florida, Indiana, NC State and West Virginia. The one thing Chris Holtmann’s rosters have been missing is a true center, and Ohio State would obviously be ecstatic to land the 6-foot-10 Phillips to change that moving forward.

Four-star big man Shawn Phillips breaks down his final seven schools

“This is a final 7 I'll be deciding between these schools. I'm going to wait till I take all my visits first to feel out the schools to meet the coaches and the players. I just want a good community where me and the coaches vibe. I also want to get a couple touches a game doesn't have to be too many just share the ball a lot make the smart play where we play some good basketball.”

Ohio State: “They're the hometown so if I didn't put them in people would've been upset. They were also my third offer and have been showing love since the jump. I like how their playstyle is slow and their bigs touch the ball a lot. They've been picking up their momentum and while doing that they have been keeping their bigs involved and I really like that a lot.”

** What’s next for Phillips? … We continue to track the curious case of Ohio native and 2022 basketball prospect Shawn Phillips. The 6-10, 250-pound Phillips was at Dayton Belmont last year as a sophomore and has been at Michigan’s Ypsi Prep this year. But it was reported he is leaving Ypsi Prep and will be at a third high school next year.

Phillips, ranked as the nation’s No. 84 prospect, is playing on the travel circuit this spring with the Georgia Stars. We caught up wit Phillips at a travel event this past weekend in Indianapolis and asked for an update.

“Right now, I’m thinking about transferring to a school in Atlanta,” Phillips said. “As of right now, I’m still enrolled at Ypsi Prep. I’m just working on my jump shot and the rest of my game.”

It was reportedly previously that Ohio State had offered Phillips. Asked about OSU, Phillips said: “They say the same thing they’ve said the past couple of years – that they want me and would love to have me.”
