Welcome folks! You're lookin' live at the 9th Annual BP Pick'em Contest.

If you have not played before, READ THE RULES. If you have played before, READ THE RULES AGAIN. If anything is unclear, PM questions to me, or simply wait for a few veterans to post their picks and follow the crowd.

1. Every week there will be a new pick'em thread for that week. You are tasked with correctly picking eleven winners for the eleven contests offered AGAINST THE SPREAD.

2. When you submit your picks, your submission SHOULD USE the same name as presented in the original post. E.g., If you are presented the choice of "Ohio State at Miami Fla", please use either 'Ohio State' or 'Miami Fla' as your pick. If you submit your pick as "Miami," "OSU," "The Bucks" or something else, it MAY be scored a loss, even if you had correctly predicted the winner.

3. You are scored by your pick percentage (correct picks / total picks) from the results of the first ten games each week. Verify you have submitted all eleven picks. The eleventh 'extra game' pick is used in the event one of the original ten games is cancelled or postponed. The weekly scores are tabulated and a year-to-date leaderboard is posted to close each weekly pick'em thread.

4. Point spreads do not change once posted, including in situations where the game has been taken 'off the board' due to suspensions, or due to error on my part in posting the lines.

5. You are not required to play every week, but you must participate in over 50% of the weekly pick'em contests for the year (typically a minimum of 8 out of 14), plus the bowl season finale to win the pick'em season title.

6. Weekly threads are posted four to five days ahead of the first game for the week, closing before kick-off of that game. Most weeks, the game selection group will include the nationally televised ESPN Thursday and Friday night games, Saturday marquee games from as many regions as possible, and the Ohio State game.

This weeks picks due Thursday Sep 1 8:00 PM

UNLV (+35.5) at Wisconsin [Thursday]
TCU (-5.5) at Baylor [Friday]
Akron (+33.5) at Ohio State
Minnesota (+20.5) at Southern Cal
South Florida (+10.5) at Notre Dame
San Jose St (+28.5) at Stanford
Oregon (PK) vs LSU [Arlington TX]
Boise State (-3.5) vs Georgia [Atlanta GA]
Marshall (+20.5) at WVU [Sunday]
SMU (+15.5) at Texas A&M [Sunday]

Extra game

East Carolina (+20.5) vs South Carolina [Charlotte NC]

This rule used to say something like "use the full name of the school". I miss the days of making smartass picks like "Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University".

There are three reasons for this rule:

1. You. You were a major pain in the ass.
2. One year, there was a week when Ohio State, Oregon State, Oklahoma State, Southern Cal, and South Carolina were all either ranked or playing ranked opponents. I got one of these:

OSU
OSU
USC
OSU
USC

3. I score the bowl week and some weeks where there are 60 or 70 participants by string matching in Excel (I keep the scores in an Excel Workbook). There is no 'logic' to it. If it's not an exact match, Excel will mark it as incorrect.

#1... I know, I know. I was just trying to have some fun, since seeing the results of my picks was usually not very fun at all.

#2... It reminds me of when I ran an March Madness pool back when I was in middle school. It was before the internet really took off, so it was all done by hand with brackets photocopied from the newspaper. One year one of the early games was something like Iowa State - Illinois State, and half the bozos in the pool wrote in "ISU".
