2010-11 Big Ten bowl season

So the conference kicks off bowl season tomorrow. What can we expect?

Iowa vs Missouri
Illinois vs Baylor
Northwestern vs Texas Tech
Penn State vs Florida
Michigan State vs Alabama
Michigan vs Mississippi State
Wisconsin vs TCU
Ohio State vs Arkansas

I didn't like some of these match ups when announced and I like them even less after all of the suspensions, injuries, etc.. Iowa lost 2 playmakers, Northwestern is playing with their back up QB, Sparty lost their leading receiver and the Buckeyes have the distractions related to suspensions, although all will play in the game.

I think 4-4 would be a good result, all things considered, but 2-6 may be more likely. :ohwell:

Penn State vs Florida (Gators lost 4 starters including CB James, cue the violins for the swan song)

Michigan vs Mississippi State (we want Rich Rod to win this and save his job)

Iowa over Missouri as Stanzi ups his draft value in a comeback win.
Illinois vs Baylor in a coin toss. Tough to choose because it will be a shootout (take the over!)
Northwestern vs Texas Tech. When I first saw this I would have taken NW, thinking that all the regulars would be able to make the Bowl game, but I just don't think their small-emergency-backup QB is ready for this yet.
Penn State vs Florida partially because it's the Knob's last game as head coach.
Michigan State vs Alabama. Both teams think they should be in a bigger bowl. Michigan State will be able to handle it better because they've not been in a bigger bowl in a long time.
Michigan vs Mississippi State Missy stayed with Auburn, Michigan will be in way over their heads.
Wisconsin vs TCU. TCU will be able to frequently score on Wisky. but Wisky will plain wear-down the overmatched Toad's defense.
Ohio State vs Arkansas. I base this on the team recovering from the off-field distractions, along with playing mistake-free. If not, it's going to be a long off-season.

Probably four and four or three and five. Five and three wouldn't surprise me. Two and six would disappoint me.

I'm with almost all of these, but I think either JoePa or TSUN will get a win, making it 3-5.

I think Wisky, OSU, and either Iowa/PSU/Michigan will pull off a win. 2-6 or 3-5 will not help the Big 10 imagine. But as people have said, most B10 schools are walking into the bowls with suspensions, injuries, and other distractions which never helps. I'm hoping for at least 4-4, but not looking so good.

I know. I knew the moment this game was announced (before all of Iowa's suspensions etc) that Iowa would lose. Then, after all the suspensions, I knew Iowa would lose big.

Of course, as usual, I know VERY little about how these things turn out and I was wrong again.

Mizzou was one of the most overrated teams this season, getting as high as the top 5 before getting blown out. I still think they were overrated at #12. Iowa on the other hand was a top 10 team at the beginning of the season and fell apart. Aside from the suspensions and problems they've had, i was not surprised to see them pull it off last night.

Let's hope the Illini can pull off another big win tonight. Baylor has a horrible defense, especially run D. So if Illinois can get the run game going early and often they will have a good shot.

These are the games the Big Ten needed to win to have a shot at a winning bowl record. Win 2 of the 5 on New Years...and then the Buckeyes can bring it home. I still struggle to find the other New Year's win besides Wisconsin. Maybe Penn State or Michigan?
