Law firm of Darrow, Goebel & Pocic

Lemont (Ill.) High's Ethan Pocic, Naperville (Ill.) North's Colin Goebel and Voltz's teammate at Barrington (Ill.) High, Mason Darrow, have already drawn the attention of BCS college recruiters. On Sunday they worked on their technique with former Iowa freshman All-American offensive guard Mike Jones, who went on to play with three different teams in the NFL.

The 6-foot-4, 245-pound Goebel's first recruiting call came in the eighth grade while his older cousin Garrett was on a recruiting visit to Ohio State. The elder Goebel eventually signed with the Buckeyes, and put Ohio State on the phone with his little cousin.

"I was talking to them for like half an hour," Goebel laughed. "I knew I wanted to play football in college, but I didn't know I was going to be recruited. We talked about how football and wrestling was going."

Goebel admits he was ready to commit to Ohio State in eighth grade, but now remains open to all potential suitors. During the winter recruiting evaluation period, he said coaches from Iowa, Michigan State, Purdue, Minnesota and of course Ohio State came by the school.

A former linebacker, Goebel has put on 40 pounds in the last year, and this past fall was his first season on the offensive line.

"Extremely athletic kid," Jones said. "He's raw in the fact he's only played offensive line for a very limited time. We're working him at guard trying to teach him the best of the best technique playing offensive guard. He's athletic, he just needs to keep putting on weight, but he's gotten taller since the last time I've seen him and if he fills out that frame and learns technique, he's going to be a big-time player."

Congrats, he probably has a proud dad:biggrin:
Hopefully Garrett speaks highly of OSU.

Garrett was considered the best heavyweight wrestler in the country iirc. He's turning into a pretty darn good football player for us as well. Wouldn't mind another player like him but we're gonna be pretty stocked for interior linemen.
