Argonauts' David Boston to have foot surgery

(Layne Murdoch/Getty Images)Toronto Argonauts wide receiver David Boston will have surgery to repair a stress fracture in his right foot Tuesday and will be out of the lineup for 10 to 12 weeks.
The former NFL star is believed to have sustained the injury while warming up prior to a game with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2005. Argonauts' team doctors noticed a problem with Boston's foot prior to this year's training camp and recommended the surgery.
The six-foot-two, 235-pound receiver was placed on the team's suspended list because of the injury, but a second opinion prompted him to return to the team's lineup for the season opener against the Winnipeg Blue Bombers on Friday.

Several Former NFL Players Trying Out For UFL

Multiple former NFL players auditioned for jobs in the United Football League this weekend during a workout in Orlando, Fla.

With former NFL coach Dennis Green overseeing the workout, former Baltimore Ravens first-round pick Travis Taylor and former Arizona Cardinals first-round selection David Boston were a few of the players in attendance, UFL spokeswoman Rachel Gary told us in a telephone interview today.

Besides Taylor, other ex-NFL players on hand included: tight end Jermaine Wiggins, quarterback Quinn Gray, wide receiver Reche Caldwell and running back LaBrandon Toefield and wide receiver/defensive back Bobby Sippio.

The workout was by invitation only with players not trying out for specific teams. There will be another workout in Las Vegas next week.

David Boston: (at OSU 1996-98) Oh, what might have been. After a spectacular Ohio State career (191 catches, 2,855 yards) and a splendid start with the Arizona Cardinals that included a 98-catch, 1,598-yard season in 2001, Boston's career practically vaporized. He clashed with coaches in San Diego, where he had signed as a free agent; was traded to Miami; got suspended by the NFL for steroids use; suffered two knee injuries; got signed by Tampa Bay but was released after a DUI; and went to Canada in 2008 and caught two passes for the Toronto Argonauts before another injury sidelined him for good.

Never thought I would think Bellisari was better then another OSU QB, but he would have been an upgrade over Bauserman (in theory).

Boston, trainer at the Institute of Human Performance in Boca Raton, Fla., said it was a special moment for him and the Buckeye faithful.

"It was a happy moment for all of the Buckeye fans and all of the alumni," Boston said. "We were just glad to make the plays there at the end."

Former Buckeye Boston faces up to 35 months in prison

Former Ohio State receiver David Boston could face nearly three years in prison for punching a woman last year.

Palm Beach (Fla.) County prosecutors say Boston, 34, pleaded guilty on Monday to aggravated battery. He faces up to 35 months in prison at a Dec. 7 hearing.

Authorities say Boston had been drinking at a Boca Raton home last November when he punched a woman twice in the head, leaving a wound that required 10 stitches.

Boston played in the NFL with the Arizona Cardinals, San Diego Chargers and Miami Dolphins before injuries and legal problems ended his career.

He's an absolute disappointment in so many ways.

I recall his first year with the Cardinals he was dating a girl I knew, while she was visiting her family during the holidays he called her home at 3 in the morning, when her father answered the phone he said "This DB, put Caroline on the phone" Let's just say dad wasn't a fan, and that relationship never worked out. I also remember during the time Na'il Diggs came out to stay with him pre-NFL and he treated him like crap. I was always surprised he acted like such a punk because he came from a pretty decent family.

And then the steroid problems, being an underachiever and all the criminal issues... just a disappointment.
