Former #WVU safety commit Kendrell McFadden has committed to Miami of Ohio. @JonathanKMartin

Miami RedHawks add highest-rated recruit since 2002

National Signing Day was more than a month ago, but there were still some players that held off on making their college choices final. On Saturday, four-star safety Kendrell McFadden got around to making his decision. The Hollywood, Florida safety will be heading to Miami. The one in Ohio.

It is expected four-star players will go to the University of Miami, but going to Miami University is a different story. Rivals has been scouting high school players since 2002. According to the Rivals recruiting rankings, McFadden is the first four-star player to join the RedHawks since 2002. Consider that a huge recruiting victory for head coach Chuck Martin.

Per Rivals, McFadden had plenty of high-profile offers on the board; Alabama, Auburn, Clemson, Florida, Florida State, Louisville, LSU, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Texas A&M, West Virginia and more extended offers. West Virginia had previously held McFadden’s commitment but opened up his recruitment in December after his high school, Miramar High School, pulled out of the playoffs following the uncovering of academic violations connected to the team. West Virginia’s existing connections to McFadden’s high school were documented by The Charleston Gazette. McFadden said at the time he was planning to stay connected with West Virginia until a better situation came along.

Still baffled by this situation to say the least. I'm sure there is a lot more to this story, especially since Miami is a better academic institution thatpn WVU
